About Our School
What's so special about NVLA?
The Napa Valley Language Academy is a two-way immersion charter school within the Napa Valley Unified School District. The two-way language immersion program, one of 100 such programs in California, offers students the unique and exciting opportunity of learning to read, write, and communicate naturally in both Spanish and English. Within six years, students acquire the priceless gift of dual-language fluency. Both Spanish and English speaking students are essential to the success of the program, and positive interaction and friendship between the groups ensures that our students learn from each other.
Our Students
At NVLA, our students become fluent and literate in two of the world's most widely spoken languages. Their appreciation for cultures, talents and self-expression are developed through Visual and Performing Arts. Over 200 students participate in weekly after-school classes in the arts including Ballet and Movement. Multicultural Visual Arts, Suzuki Violin, and Ballet Folkorico. This program will be expanded this year in our new Performing Arts building, the 'Moreno Center', as well as a new library, computer lab and art room.
Our Parents
The parents at NVLA participate in decision-making on all levels, volunteering for many campus committees and task forces. Parents help in the classrooms, on our fundraising committee, in the garden and science lab, library, computer lab and as representatives on our Charter Council and Parent Group, Amigos in Action. Our parents are involved with their child?s education in and out of the classroom, and have the opportunity to learn a second language along with their child through volunteering in the classroom, participating in a newly formed conversation group, or practicing Spanish as they work on projects together with Spanish speaking parents.
Free after-school enrichment programs are available to all NVLA students through the fundraising efforts of the parent-run Educational Foundation, C.L.A.S.E. (Cultural, Language and Arts Student Enrichment Foundation) The major fundraiser is a bi-annual Wine Auction held each November. This program emphasizes visual and performing arts, music, sports, science and garden, technology, literacy, and introduction to other cultures and foreign languages. NVLA's after-school Suzuki Violin and Ballet Folklórico groups have performed throughout the Bay Area. Students' artwork is on display at many Napa Valley locations.
